Publications
The three publications shown above are based on my collection of postcards. Copies can be obtained from the Gift Boutique in Manor Street, Ruskington.
In March, following an article in the local press, I received a phone call from an elderly lady I knew from Scrabble Club. She was eager to show me some items in her possession and we arranged a suitable time for me to view them. After a few minutes of chat she produced a large cardboard box and my heart leapt! She had moved to the village in the 80s, and wanting to explore the history of her ancient cottage, had embarked upon an intense period of research, ably assisted by her young niece.
The result was the discovery of an old handwritten ledger, recording information about some of the residents of Ruskington in the mid 19th century. So fascinated was she that she wrote a 150 + page book around the information recorded in the ledger, including some of the original illustrations and text.
I immediately realised that the book, previously un-published needed to be made available to all of you Ruskington history enthusiasts! There followed 9 months of editing, typing, proof reading and more research. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2/3 visits per week and felt quite a void when this work was complete. However the result is very rewarding and we are proud to announce the release of the book 'Notorious Disorderlies'. A sample of the book cover is shown below.
The book can be obtained by post (only) from Miss G Corsellis, 2 Holme Lane, Ruskington, NG34 9DN. The price is £8.99 plus £1.50 postage per copy. Cheques should be made payable to G Corsellis.
Proposed book on past Ruskington people and businesses
Following the success of 'Notorious Disorderlies' I am making plans for my next, and possibly last, book on Ruskington past. I am hoping to launch this in Autumn of 2008. The book will be about the people, families, and businesses of the village over the past three centuries.
I have already enlisted the help a number of people who have shown their willingness to provide an illustrated article. I am now asking readers of this page for their help with the inclusion of their ancestor/s in this book.
Notes for possible contributors
Acknowledgements
I have dedicated these books to my mother. She was instrumental in forming my interest in the photography of her father and would have been immensely proud of the collection I have amassed since her death.
My gratitude goes to my late Grandpa Peatman, for providing the materials to make these books possible, to my sister, Elaine, for wanting a sister, my long suffering husband, for his help and patience, and to my son, Ben, for his diligent search for more postcards.
I would also like to thank all the people who have supported me in so many ways, by buying my first book, donating or lending photographs, providing information, attending my exhibitions, or just showing an interest in and enthusing over the postcards.
